CRPF: Central Reserve Police Force

CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF). This is a paramilitary group that is the largest Central Armed Police Force in India. CRPF is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Governmentof India. Its primary function is to aid states as well as union territory governmentsin keeping peace and order within their respective regions. The headquarters of the CRPF are located situated within New Delhi, India. In the name of government, India has created the CRPR academy to offer training for students who want to be part of the CRPF. As of July 2017, Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar is the Director General of CRPF.

• "The" CRPF is a relic of"the" Crown Representative's Police (CRP) which was created on July 27 1939 to protect British residents living in states that were at risk of being invaded by India.
• The year 1949 was the time when, part of the CRPF Act in 1949, CRP was changed to the CRPF.
• On the 21st of Oct. 1959, a tiny CRPF Patrol was attacked the Chinese soldiers. It was the day that twenty CRPF soldiers were killed in the line of duty and gavetheir lives in defense of the nation. To commemorate the sacrifices of those soldiers on the 21st of Oct, the date of the 21st of October is marked in the form of a police CommemorationDay.
• The 1960s saw many police forces in the state merged with CRPF.
